Propel® Accelerator,
Already the Fastest Way to Surf Over Dial-up, Now Even Faster
Dial-Up Users Gain More Speed in Version 1.1
September 23, 2002, San Jose, CA: Propel Software Corporation,
already receiving critical acclaim for improving Web browsing speed over a
dial-up connection by up to five times, today announced Version 1.1 of
Propel Accelerator. Highlights of the new version include significant
performance gains on first-time Web page visits, as well as an innovative
approach to graphics acceleration.
"For the 50 million dial-up users in this country alone , Propel Accelerator
has been a welcome relief to painfully slow Web browsing," comments Steve
Kirsch, Founder and CEO of Propel. "With Version 1.1, we're now able to
deliver first time page views up to twice as fast, making Propel Accelerator
an even more useful service for those who visit new Web sites every day. In
addition, Version 1.1 delivers greatly enhanced performance for those who
visit the same sites again and again."
Making the Fastest Even Faster
In addition to speeding up first-time page visits, the increased overall
speed is due to a unique approach to advertisements. Version 1.1 of Propel
Accelerator can reduce the amount of time users spend waiting for
advertisements to load by up to four times.
"It's no secret that banner ads tend to slow down content delivery. We've
developed a way for the user to choose to receive ads in grayscale, which
dramatically reduces download time, allowing pages containing ads to load
much faster," continues Kirsch. "However, if advertising is important to the
customer, he or she can choose to have ads delivered in full color. This
method puts the control in the hands of the individual, without completely
blocking out ads."
Available at an introductory price of $4.95 per month or for $49.95 for 12
months, Propel Accelerator is a subscription service available for PC
users. It can be instantly
deployed anywhere there is a phone line, requires no new hardware, and works
seamlessly with most existing ISP services - including AOL, AT&T WorldNet,
EarthLink, Juno, NetZero, and MSN.
How Does It Work? Based on a client/server architecture, Propel
Accelerator speeds up first page visits using patent-pending compression
techniques and optimized TCP/IP connections. Subsequent page visits are
further accelerated using multi-tiered caching technology that can
accelerate both static and dynamic content by leveraging common page
fragments shared across repeat visits to dynamic pages. These techniques
result in significantly fewer bytes being transmitted across what is known
as the "last mile."
Growing Enthusiasm in the ISP Community
"We've been very successful in building strong relationships with ISPs of
all shapes and sizes," comments VP of Worldwide Sales and Marketing, Adriaan
Theron. "The Propel ISP Partner Program allows Internet Service Providers to
get up and running quickly, while giving them an immediate point of
differentiation in the marketplace." Theron adds, "With Propel Accelerator,
ISPs can offer their customers a superior dial-up browsing experience, while
gaining the opportunity to build incremental recurring monthly revenues and
reduce customer churn."
