U.S. Robotics gives 56K Modem
Users Major Boost
World's Leading Modem Manufacturer Teams With Propel® Software
to Offer Web Browsing That is up to 5x Faster
April 23, 2003, Baltimore, MD ISPCON: Propel Software Corporation and
U.S. Robotics today announced an agreement to bundle the Propel®
Acceleration Service with the U.S. Robotics line of analog modems. As the
world's leading provider of Internet access and connectivity products, U.S.
Robotics is the number one retailer of analog modems in North America.
Propel® Accelerator allows anyone connecting to the Internet over a U.S.
Robotics dial-up connection to browse at speeds up to 5x faster than before.
Under the terms of the agreement, U.S. Robotics will package Propel
Accelerator 3.0 with its award-winning line of analog modems. In addition to
accelerating Internet browsing, Propel Accelerator 3.0 allows users to block
unwanted advertisements such as pop-up ads, and increases the speed of file
downloads. U.S. Robotics will also market Propel's service to their existing
customer base via the U.S. Robotics Web site.
"The days of dial-up are far from over," said Amy Hansen, product line
manager, analog modems, U.S. Robotics. "In fact, according to IDC, as little
as 25 percent of online households have a broadband connection to the
Internet, making dial-up the most popular way for households to connect to
the Internet. At U.S. Robotics, we are committed to offering service
enhancements to enrich the dial-up experience such as the ability to screen
and accept calls while online. With Propel Accelerator, our users will be
able to browse the Internet up to 5x faster than before, using their same,
reliable analog modem," Hansen said.
U.S. Robotics offers a full line of analog modems with a variety of features
that meet a wide range of customer needs. The U.S. Robotics analog modem
family includes controller-based, contollerless and softmodems in external,
internal and laptop form factors. Designed, developed and tested by U.S.
Robotics' experienced engineering and quality assurance teams, U.S. Robotics
analog modems are simple to install, easy to use and are available through
all major distribution channels including retail, e-tail, catalog and
resellers.
"Internet users have been crying out for alternatives to broadband,
especially the vast majority who cannot justify the set-up and subscription
fees, or those who live in areas without broadband access. Through U.S.
Robotics, there will be an instant channel to satisfy subscribers' Internet
connectivity needs with a fast, low cost dial-up acceleration solution that
can be deployed anywhere a phone line exists," said Adriaan Theron, Vice
President of Sales and Marketing Worldwide, Propel Software Corporation.
"For over three decades, U.S. Robotics has been a leader in Internet access
and the dominant supplier of modems. Their commitment to offering our
service further supports our vision of an improved Internet experience for
consumers through accelerated Web browsing."
U.S. Robotics' customers will be able to sign up for the service online in
minutes. When a customer purchases an analog modem from U.S. Robotics, they
will be able to log on and create a Propel account using a CD that will be
pre-packaged with the U.S. Robotics modem. Existing U.S. Robotics customers
can sign up for the service by logging onto the U.S. Robotics Web site at
http://www.usr.com/.
The Propel Acceleration Service will be available to U.S. Robotics customers
at an MSRP of $7.95 per month, or $59.95 per year, in early June 2003.
