Propel® Unveils
Version 3.0 of Award Winning Propel Accelerator
Propel Adds Fully Integrated Pop Up Blocking, In-Page Ad Blocking, And
File Download Acceleration Features To Its Market Leading Dial-Up Web
Accelerator
April 23, 2003, ISPCON: Propel Software Corporation today unveiled
the new version of Propel Accelerator 3.0. Having already received critical
acclaim, Propel Accelerator 3.0 will now offer optional pop-up blocking and
in-page ad blocking as well as transparent download acceleration
capabilities.
"Propel is committed to alleviating the frustration of accessing the Web via
dial-up," said Steve Kirsch, CEO and founder of Propel Software. "With
Propel Accelerator 3.0, users can surf the web free of unwanted pop-up
windows, with less distraction from advertising, and receive acceleration on
more than just web pages with the inclusion of new file download
acceleration technology."
Pop-Up and Ad Blocking Bring New Speed and Flexibility
Propel Accelerator 3.0 will offer consumers the ability to block annoying
and time consuming pop-up and pop-under windows while browsing. Most types
of unwanted browser window pop-ups can be blocked, including those that
appear automatically when the user exits or enters a site, "mouses" over a
link, or closes a browser window.
Propel Accelerator 3.0 also offers consumers the option to block banner
advertisements and other in-page advertisement graphics. With ad blocking
turned on, pages take less time to load, appear less cluttered, and contain
no distracting advertising animations. A light gray box replaces each
blocked advertisement so that the user can see where ads have been blocked.
By right-clicking the gray box and choosing the "Refresh Picture With Full
Quality" command, a user can see the image that has been blocked. Users can
turn ad blocking on and off using a simple menu switch. The Performance
Meter shows a history of how many advertisements have been blocked in the
last 30 days. Because Propel Accelerator is a service, users never have to
download advertisement definition lists. Instead, all advertisement
definitions are maintained and updated on Propel's internet-based server
infrastructure, and all blocking is based on up to date information.
ISPs who resell customized versions of Propel Accelerator may choose whether
or not they want to offer the Pop-up and Ad Blocking features of Propel
Accelerator 3.0 in the versions that they distribute to their end users.
Download Acceleration Further Improves Dial-Up Experience
Propel Accelerator will now transparently accelerate downloads of most file
types, including MP3s and executable files.
Propel Accelerator 3.0 speeds up file downloads in three ways - by checking
for file mirror sites, by segmenting files for parallel downloading if
possible, and by retaining partially loaded file data across dropped
connections. These are the same basic download acceleration techniques used
by standalone download management utilities.
If a user's connection is dropped during a long download, when he or she
reconnects and downloads the file again, Propel Accelerator will be able to
make use of the previously downloaded portion of the file, and only download
the remainder, as needed, provided that the user is downloading from servers
that support partial downloads.
Upgrading to 3.0
Existing Propel Accelerator subscribers will be able to upgrade to Propel
Accelerator 3.0 free of charge, upon general availability in early June of
2003. New subscribers will receive version 3.0 when they sign up for the
service.
